World School Fund is an education enabler—mobilising capital, governance, and capability to help schools become sustainable institutions that serve communities for generations.
In 2010, a group of educators visited a school and orphanage in a remote part of Southeast Asia. Children were sleeping on hard floors. Classrooms were unfinished. Facilities were basic and sometimes unsafe.
The group funded a hostel, furniture, and a proper kitchen. They left believing the problem had been solved. Years later, they returned and found much incomplete. One of the personnel had been imprisoned for breach of trust.
“The problem was never simply a lack of money.”
The deeper failure was the absence of governance, accountability, leadership capability, and institutional systems that turn funding into lasting outcomes.
Sustainable schools require capital, governance, and capability working in alignment.
Through what is now World School Fund—formerly Kowabunga!—the work expanded across Southeast Asia, supporting more than 70 educational institutions.
